Cataract Evaluation

A cataract evaluation includes a discussion of your visual symptoms and a complete eye exam. If surgery is recommended, your doctor will speak to you about your various options to aid in surgical planning.

This video by the National Eye Institute (NEI) shows what life looks like with cataracts.

When you have a cataract, the lens of your eye gets cloudy. The view is like looking through dusty glass. If someone you love has cataracts, make sure they're seeing their eye doctor to get the help they need.

Comprehensive Eye Exam

Everyone should have a baseline eye examination, but particularly those who have a family history of eye diseases, such as glaucoma or macular degeneration, or those with medical conditions, including diabetes and hypertension.

Common eye conditions that may be screened for at your visit include:

  • Dry eyes

  • Glaucoma

  • Cataract

  • Macular Degeneration

  • Diabetic eye disease

We recommend that all individuals 65 or older have annual eye exams as these diseases become more prevalent in the aging population.

This video by the National Eye Institute (NEI) shows explains the importance of a comprehensive dilated eye exam for preventing blindness.

During the exam, special eye drops are used to dilate the pupils, allowing the doctor to clearly see the back of the eye, including the retina, optic nerve, and macula.

Diabetic Eye Exam

People at greater risk of developing diabetic eye disease are those who have had uncontrolled diabetes for many years. Anyone newly-diagnosed with diabetes should have a screening eye exam and follow up annually for evaluation.

This video by the National Eye Institute (NEI) shows what life looks like with diabetic retinopathy.

Diabetic retinopathy can cause vision loss and blindness in people with diabetes. If someone you love has diabetes, make sure they're seeing their eye doctor to get the help they need.

Dry Eye Relief

Find lasting relief from dry eye symptoms with a personalized treatment plan at St. Jude Eye Care. Stop relying on temporary relief and discover the root cause of your discomfort.

This video by the National Eye Institute (NEI) explains dry eye and how to treat the condition

Dry eye disease causes a feeling of irritation, burning, or a sandy sensation, as if something is in the eye.

DMV Screening Test

We are authorized to perform the vision screening tests required to apply for or renew driver licenses in New York State. Your results can be submitted electronically.

Glaucoma Evaluation And Treatment

Your doctor may recommend additional screening for glaucoma, using state-of-the-art technology, in order to detect and treat before glaucoma progression. Current treatment modalities include medical therapy, as well as in-office laser treatments. Ask us during your visit about your risk factors.

This video by the National Eye Institute (NEI) shows what life looks like with glaucoma.

Glaucoma causes vision loss by damaging the optic nerve in the back of your eye. One of the first signs of glaucoma is loss of peripheral (side) vision. Eye exams can catch glaucoma early, before it affects your vision.
